FAA 350 Course Information
Prerequisite: Art I (Introduction to the Arts) and Art II, with departmental approval. Open to juniors and seniors.
Description: This course is especially designed for the student who is interested in studying art in college. Supplemented by the study of art history, Art 350 provides for the student practice, experience, and insight into drawing and design through the study of the figure, object, and environment. The roles of design, painting, and printmaking in the visual arts will be explored as well.
Final exam will be graded as the final portfolio review and averaged with grades from previous portfolio reviews.
Outcomes: The student will be able to:
-develop his drawing skills,
-learn new methods of drawing, designing, painting, and printmaking
-understand drawing in terms of art history,
-expand his art portfolio.
Content: perspective drawing
-contour drawing
-blind contour drawing
-gesture drawing
-still life drawing
-tonal drawing
-timed drawings
-drawing in color
-drawing for printmaking
-drawing on location
-illustration -color exploration
-oil and acrylic painting
-designing with elements and principles
-films, as applicable
-art history
-reading and writing in art history
Materials: All art supplies (except pencils) are provided within the course. Students must replace supplies as needed. The supplemental reading book, ELEMENTARY ALPHABETS, by Ross F. George, is required for this course. The book is available for student use in art class.
Special Information: All honors art students will be required to assemble a portfolio of all assigned work, matted or mounted as applicable.
Method of Evaluation: Teacher assessment of student portfolio, effort, class participation, and completed projects.
